For the past two years, various streets in the Wooten Neighborhood have participated in the City of Austin’s Living Street Initiative. The neighborhood has engaged in initiatives by participating in the Neighborhood Block Parties, Healthy Street Initiative, and the Play Street Program.
To refresh everyone’s memory, the Healthy Street Initiative allows certain streets to have semi-permanent structures that discourage motor vehicle traffic and provide more space for walking or biking. While the structures discourage motor traffic, the street is open to local motor vehicle traffic, including deliveries and emergency response. The roads that participate in the Play Streets Program can close a single block to most traffic for up to 3 days a week for up to 12 hours a week.
The City of Austin requests feedback on the Healthy Street and Play Street Program. If you live or have interacted with one of the streets in the program, please send your feedback! Use the links below to send in feedback.
